Where to Stay
Getting there and away
Villa de Leyva is located 50 minutes bus ride from the city of Tunja which in turn is two - three hours from Bogota. In turn Tunja is about a three
hour drive from San Gil.
Being a very popular Colombian tourist town there is no shortage of transport. However it is considerably easier to get there and back on the
weekend when the place fills up with Colombian tourists from Bogota. Getting into Bogota at rush hour can be very depressing. Its been suggested
that you get off at the northern entrance to the city where there is a TranMilenio stop and take that to the hostel of your choice in 'La Candelaria'
I have only one option at the moment as this is the only place I know of and have stayed in. Oscar, a
friendly and knowledgeable Colombian owns the small, traditional and immaculately clean guesthouse,
Renacer, which is part of the Colombian Highlands tour company which he also runs.
Where to Eat
Restaurant Chez Remy, only putting in one suggestion here, the rest you can figure out. This
place is one of the very few places in Colombia that serve lamb. French owned and run the lamb
I had was very good indeed. While we were there the governor of Antioquia provence was also
dining there so it must be good
