Santa Marta/ Taganga
Taganga has long been a backpacker magnet in Colombia. Its only a small village with a narrow stretch of
beach but for some reason it attracts more foreigners than any other spot in Colombia.
There are loads of places to stay in Taganga. My personal favourite is the                              owned by a French/ Colombian couple, Phillipe
and Sandra and there little girls. The hostal started off as a bare piece of land and a few cabanas but as tourism to Colombia and in particluar
to Taganga has boomed Phillipe has been building new rooms as fast as he can and they are generally always full. It is the type of place you go
to for a day or two and end up staying at for weeks.

There are at least a dozen other options in Taganga. In my first visit to the town in 2001 I stayed at the then famous,
Casa Blanca, which enjoys
an unrivalled position on the beach. I had a second story room with balcony overlooking the bay. I ended up staying for three weeks. Heaven.
While Casa Blanca is only a stones throw away from the beach, the Casa de Felipe is a better option for meeting other travellers.

Other places that I have not personally stayed in but have heard good things about are
Techos Azules and Pelican and also next door to
Casa Blanca, a Colombian guy by the name of Joselito rents out rooms or hammock space cheaply.
Getting there and away
Taganga is only twenty minutes by collectivo bus from Santa Marta. Buses leave every ten minutes or so. Now and then you can find a taxi that
will take you for 5.000 pesos or so also. The short road to Santa Marta is the only road from Taganga.
