everyone seems to rave about the mud volcano near Cartagena. After going to
Arboletes and seeing its huge mud volcano you'd laugh about the earlier one. Its huge.
We had a swimming race from one side to the other. A hundred meter sprint. There are
no people annoying you and no one charging you to get in the mud. To get there you
can take a donkey drawn cart ride from the main plaza of Arboletes town. Its a ten
minute ride. After you have finished your time in the mud you can walk down the hill,
two minutes, to the sea and get rid of the mud. Right there on the beach is a little
restaurant serving freshly caught fish and the owner also offers the service of a fresh
water shower to get rid of the remaining mud and salt water. All in all a great day. I
would say there is no particular reason to stay the night in Arboletes. More of a day
trip. But a lot of fun.
